His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh

Arborfield & Newland Parish Council today joins the rest of the nation in mourning following the death of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.

Acting Parish Chairman Andrew Clint said: “On behalf of the residents of Arborfield & Newland and the officer and members of the Parish Council, I would like to express our condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and the members of the Royal Family on the death of the His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh who has been consort to Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II for over 60 years.”

In 2009 he became the longest serving British consort and in addition to playing a prominent role in supporting Her Majesty The Queen, he was also patron or president of a number of organisations and from 1969 was the Colonel in Chief of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) which was formerly based at Arborfield Garrison.
